Asexual and Non-Asexual Respondents from a US Population-Based Study of Sexual Minorities

Using data from the Generations Study, a U.S. population-based sample of LGB and other sexual minority people, this study compares the demographics, sexual behavior, and experiences of adults who identified as asexual compared to those who were non-asexual. The paper was published in Archives of Sexual Behavior in June 2019.

Asexual sexual minority adults are more likely to be women or gender non-binary, assigned female at birth, and younger than non-asexual LGB adults.
Asexual sexual minority adults report significantly less sexual activity yet are as likely to be in an intimate relationship as non-asexual LGB adults.
Asexual sexual minority adults report more everyday discrimination and stigma than non-asexual LGB adults.
