Holning Lau is the Willie Person Mangum Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina School of Law. His research focuses on international human rights and comparative constitutional law pertaining to gender, sexuality, and family life. He also chairs the UNC SOGIESC Human Rights Initiative, working with students on pro bono projects concerning LGBTQI rights. He has served as a consultant on LGBTQI rights to organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, the Danish Institute for Human Rights, and the International Commission of Jurists. From 2006 to 2007, Lau was the Harvey S. Shipley Miller Teaching Fellow at the Williams Institute. He received his J.D. from the University of Chicago, where he was named a Stonewall Scholar and awarded the Ignacio Martín-Baró Human Rights Paper Prize. He also holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
