Predictors of Psychological Adjustment in Early Placed Adopted Children With Lesbian, Gay, and Heterosexual Parents
July 2013
This report examined the externalizing and internalizing symptoms of children before and after adoption into female same-sex, male same-sex, and different-sex parent families. It appeared in the Journal of Family Psychology in June 2013.
Highlights
Lack of preparation and parental depressive symptoms were associated with higher levels of both externalizing and internalizing symptoms.
Parents' relationship conflict was associated with higher levels of parent- and partner-reported internalizing symptoms.
The children's adjustment outcomes did not differ by family type.
