Gender-Affirming Health Care Needs, Barriers to Care, and Health and Wellbeing in a Broad Nationwide Sample of Transgender People in Norway

Using data from a nationwide sample of 579 transgender and nonbinary people in Norway, this study from the Williams Institute and the University of Agder, Norway, examines gender-affirming health care needs, care experiences, and overall health and well-being across gender identity groups. It appeared in BMJ Public Health in December 2025.

Over one-third of respondents reported having ever attempted suicide—12 times Norway’s general population.
