Using a probability sample from 19 states and Guam, this study provides a look at the demographic characteristics and health status of the transgender population and explores the health disparities between transgender and cisgender people in the United States. It appeared in the American Journal of Public Health in April 2017.
Highlights
Transgender individuals had a higher prevalence of poor general health compared to cisgender people.
More transgender than cisgender people lacked health care coverage and a health care provider.
Transgender individuals did not differ from cisgender individuals in prevalence of chronic diseases, cancers, or depressive disorders.
