On January 13, 2026, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two cases involving state restrictions on transgender participation in sports: West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox. These cases raise two important questions that could significantly impact transgender people in the U.S. First, justices will decide whether restrictions on transgender sports participation violate the prohibition on sex discrimination in education programs under Title IX.
