In this webinar, we present results from Williams Institute reports providing analysis of the legal landscape and the lived experiences of transgender and nonbinary (TNB) individuals regarding hate crimes and victimization in California.
California has a robust legal environment with over two dozen state statutes addressing hate crimes—including statutes that provide for sentencing enhancements, require law enforcement training, and impose campus reporting requirements. Despite these protections, administrative data and survey results reveal a significant and growing problem of victimization of TNB people in California.
In addition to Williams Institute experts, we will hear from community advocates and service providers, as well as the state Department of Civil Rights, about their efforts on behalf of TNB people in California.
