Hillary Clinton had some harsh words for President Trump’s newly enacted transgender military ban, which took effect Friday.
“It is abhorrent. Every American should be able to serve their country, and I can’t believe we’re still debating that in 2019. We have to reverse this as soon as we can,” the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee wrote on Twitter Friday morning.
The policy, which reversed a 2016 decision by then-President Barack Obama, was first proposed by Trump in a series of tweets nearly two years ago. It is seen as a “tragic reversal of a historic step forward for the United States,” according to the National Center for Transgender Equality.
