Research finds that exposure to images and information about transgender people helps reduce transphobia, which increases an individual’s support for the equality and legal protection of transgender people.

The study provided three groups of study participants with information and/or images of transgender people. A fourth group received only written information on a related topic. Then, researchers asked questions to measure participants’ levels of transphobia and their support for policies that protect transgender people.

All three of the groups that received information and/or images showed a reduction in transphobia and an increase in support for legal policies protecting transgender people.
