March 2015

Williams Institute Research Director and Blachford-Cooper Distinguished Scholar Gary Gates filed an amicus brief shedding light on the demographic and economic characteristics of same-sex couples and their children. This brief presents and analyzes available demographic data regarding married and unmarried same-sex couples and their children in the United States in general, and in the states within the Eighth Circuit that continue to prohibit marriage between same-sex couples (Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota).
