Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in Wyoming
by Christy Mallory and Brad Sears
There are approximately 15,100 LGBT adults in Wyoming. Currently, only 6% of Wyoming’s LGBT population is protected from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity under local laws. Over 60% Wyoming residents support expanding legal protections for LGBT people.
If sexual orientation and gender identity were added to Wyoming’s existing employment non-discrimination law, approximately four additional complaints of discrimination would be filed with the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services each year. Available data indicate that these additional complaints would not be costly or burdensome for the state to enforce.
