Cook County same-sex marriage marks 1 year

Despite the fact that the couple had been committed for 13 years when Cook County legalized same-sex marriages a year ago on Saturday and one week after Valentine’s Day, the two former Homewood residents waited to wed on the same day and month of their previous 2010 civil union and their 2002 commitment ceremony – for logistical reasons: “We had to schedule the ceremony so that John wouldn’t have one more date to remember,” Michaels said.
“I forgot (Frank’s) birthday once,” Donovan confessed.
