Director of Finance and Strategic Initiatives

Job Description

The Williams Institute, a national think tank on sexual orientation law and public policy at UCLA School of Law, seeks an innovative, organized and visionary professional to serve as the Director of Finance and Strategic Initiatives. Qualified applicants will have a passion for advancing the Institute’s mission and will direct the operational aspects of its programs, including by developing initiatives to enhance the Institute’s work and ensures its sustainability; streamlining the Institute’s operational practices and enhancing efficiency; assisting with proactive fundraising strategies, and overseeing budgeting and reporting processes. The Director of Finance and Strategic Initiatives will be a part of the senior leadership team and will report directly to the Executive Director.

Qualifications 

  • Five or more years of progressively responsible management, operations, development and/or finance experience (preferably in higher education or related field such as sales, marketing, etc.)
  • Proven skills in developing sophisticated and long term strategies for the successful identification, cultivation, and solicitation of annual and major gifts and foundation grants
  • Advanced ability to plan, direct, and monitor budgetary matters, including budget preparation, accounting, and reporting, as well as tracking expenditures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage staff and work collaboratively with various people
  • Ability to establish priorities, work under tight deadlines, and consistently meet and exceed goals in a fast-paced environment
  • Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, stakeholders and staff
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of fundraising, grants management, and/or budgeting software
  • Passion for advancing the work of the Williams Institute and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) rights more generally and familiarity with the LGBT community
  • Advanced degree

Salary Range: $6,084 – $11,916 monthly
