The Role of Experts and Academics in LGBT Advocacy
It is increasingly common for courts, legislatures and advocates in all parts of the world to call on experts and academics, such as medical doctors, psychoanalysts, economists, lawyers, public health experts, or individuals who have expertise because of their individual experience and circumstances. This webinar will address several questions that arise during this process. When are experts useful? Who is considered an expert? How are experts used in different countries and/or cultural contexts? What is the value of, and challenges posed by, experts who are independent of the LGBT movement? How can advocates and experts form useful relationships? What are some examples of how experts have been used in LGBT advocacy?
