Gary J. Gates is the Williams Distinguished Scholar at the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law & Public Policy at the UCLA School of Law and co-author of  The Gay and Lesbian Atlas. He is the country’s leading expert on the demography of the gay and lesbian population using US Census data. His work has been featured in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, National Public Radio, and CNN. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University along with a Master of Divinity degree from St. Vincent College and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
